Scrutineerings completed. Everything ready for the 53rd Trofeo Vallecamonica

Tomorrow, engines will roar on the 8.5 kilometers of the Malegno-Ossimo-Borno route. Enthusiasts eagerly await this edition, celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of the event organized and promoted by the Automobile Club Brescia.

Borno, July 12th, 2024 – Just a few hours left before everything becomes reality. After a day of preparations and checks, the 53rd Trofeo Vallecamonica is gearing up for the final night before igniting the engines of this edition, which, after nineteen years, brings back the FIA European Hill Climb Championship to the Malegno-Ossimo-Borno along with the Italian Hill Climb Championship, the premier national series, and the Italian Mountain Speed Championship.

To say there is anticipation is almost an understatement. Enthusiasts are preparing for what is seen as the event of the year for the entire Vallecamonica and beyond. Today, Malegno, Ossimo, and Borno hosted, for the first time, the verification day distributed across the three municipalities, with nearly 240 competitors set to compete on the first day tomorrow.

The road will close at 7:00 AM, with the first car scheduled to start at 8:30 AM. The day’s program will be somewhat different from usual. First, the historic cars and those registered in the CIVM will climb for the first practice session, followed by the Supersalita and FIA EHCC entrants. At this point, the historic cars and CIVM will already tackle their first race session, while Supersalita and FIA EHCC will follow for their second official practice run.

The festivities will kick off with the Maserati MC20 Cielo equipped with a complete “robo-driver” system and driven by the AI developed by the Politecnico di Milano, which participated in the 2023 edition of the 1000 Miglia. The car will ascend the ramps of the Camunian track as the lead car, marking the first time ever for a hill climb.

There is great anticipation for the challenge between the Italian drivers, among the best hill climb racers in Europe, and the large group of foreign drivers representing 13 nations, who have come to Vallecamonica to earn points in the FIA European Hill Climb Championship. The forecast predicts a new showdown between Simone Faggioli (Nova Proto NP01 Bardahl), winner of the last three editions, and Christian Merli (Osella FA30 Judd LRM), but there are many drivers capable of aiming for the podium and the top positions. Saturday, July 13, will be the first moment to deliver timed results and allow all teams to work on the best setup adjustments.

The race will be followed tomorrow with non-stop updates on the social channels of the Italian Hill Climb Championship and the official Trofeo Vallecamonica social media.
