Brescia, 21.07.2019 – An exciting race. The 49th Vallecamonica Trophy confirms all its value. The 8,800 meters of hill climb on the historic track of Malegno-Ossimo-Borno have written another page of history, a story that thanks to the Automobile Club Brescia continues to excite generations, attracting champions from all over Europe ready to compete on a track undoubtedly fascinating.
165 at the start, a public of great occasions, a track prepared with maniacal care and a superb organization were the ingredients of this edition.
The 49th Trofeo Vallecamonica has had more keys to interpreting, but they all came together on Denny Zardo, who at the wheel of the Norma M20 FC of Best Lap, sets the best time winning the appointment valid for the Trofeo Velocità Montagna Nord. With no if and no but, Zardo has mortgaged the victory already in the first ascent, with a 3’46.08 that has remained the best time of the whole weekend. “I am delighted to have reached the top without any damage. I had climbed to do a test race and to go back to winning after 16 years means that I’m not so old yet” joked the winner. “I had some very respectable opponents who gave 100% to win it. My luck was to have a good feeling with the car, after four races already played this year, and this allowed me to travel hard. I dedicate my success to my team and to all my partners without whom I could not have gone uphill again”.
Fausto Bormolini (Formula Reynard K02/Furore Mostorsport) seemed to try to resist him, after having scored the best partial in the first practice session, but he suffered from gearbox problems that prevented him from taking on the second heat on Saturday and finally forced him to retire in the first stages of the actual challenge. “It’s a shame that it ended this way,” commented Bormolini honestly, “but against this super Zardo I could not have made it. A praise to the organizers who have made a great race and deserve stages of European importance”.
The second best performance was thus tinged with Swiss colours, with Joël Volluz (Osella FA30) winning the FIA Hill Climb Cup 2019 appointment, of which the 49th Trofeo Vallecamonica was the fourth appointment on the calendar. The Swiss finished with a total of 7’45.48. “It was a really tough and complete race, impeccably organized,” he concluded in the end, “the level really very high and I’m really happy to have brought home the maximum result for the FIA HCC that was the main goal.
To complete the hypothetical podium of the best performances, giving an international flavour to this edition of the Trophy, was the French Sebastien Petit (Norma M20 FC), who closed with the third overall reference in 7’52.78, second among the competitors entered in the FIA International Hill Climb Cup.
