Brescia, 21.07.2019 – An exciting race. The 49th Vallecamonica Trophy confirms all its value. The 8,800 meters of hill climb on the historic track of Malegno-Ossimo-Borno have written another page of history, a story that thanks to the Automobile Club Brescia continues to excite generations, attracting champions from all over Europe ready to compete on a track undoubtedly fascinating.

165 at the start, a public of great occasions, a track prepared with maniacal care and a superb organization were the ingredients of this edition.

The 49th Trofeo Vallecamonica has had more keys to interpreting, but they all came together on Denny Zardo, who at the wheel of the Norma M20 FC of Best Lap, sets the best time winning the appointment valid for the Trofeo Velocità Montagna Nord. With no if and no but, Zardo has mortgaged the victory already in the first ascent, with a 3’46.08 that has remained the best time of the whole weekend. “I am delighted to have reached the top without any damage. I had climbed to do a test race and to go back to winning after 16 years means that I’m not so old yet” joked the winner. “I had some very respectable opponents who gave 100% to win it. My luck was to have a good feeling with the car, after four races already played this year, and this allowed me to travel hard. I dedicate my success to my team and to all my partners without whom I could not have gone uphill again”.

Fausto Bormolini (Formula Reynard K02/Furore Mostorsport) seemed to try to resist him, after having scored the best partial in the first practice session, but he suffered from gearbox problems that prevented him from taking on the second heat on Saturday and finally forced him to retire in the first stages of the actual challenge. “It’s a shame that it ended this way,” commented Bormolini honestly, “but against this super Zardo I could not have made it. A praise to the organizers who have made a great race and deserve stages of European importance”.

The second best performance was thus tinged with Swiss colours, with Joël Volluz (Osella FA30) winning the FIA Hill Climb Cup 2019 appointment, of which the 49th Trofeo Vallecamonica was the fourth appointment on the calendar. The Swiss finished with a total of 7’45.48. “It was a really tough and complete race, impeccably organized,” he concluded in the end, “the level really very high and I’m really happy to have brought home the maximum result for the FIA HCC that was the main goal.

To complete the hypothetical podium of the best performances, giving an international flavour to this edition of the Trophy, was the French Sebastien Petit (Norma M20 FC), who closed with the third overall reference in 7’52.78, second among the competitors entered in the FIA International Hill Climb Cup.

FIA INTERNATIONAL HILL CLIMB CUP – Overall victory fot Volluz, ahead of Petit and Liber, excellent third.

In the E2SS Group, behind the winner Joël Volluz, second place for a very good Federico Liber (Gloria C8P Evo/Alby Racing Team) who, even if he was slowed down by a not perfect confidence with the rear tyres, especially in the first climb, he still got very good times. Third place for Renzo Napione (Formula Reynard K02/Furore Motorsport).

In E2SC domination of the already mentioned Petit, ahead of Paolo Venturi (Elia Avrio ST09 Evo/Vimotorsport) and Giuseppe Presti (Lucchini 207 BMW). Solo success in CN for Stefano Falcetta (Norma M20 Evo), while in E2SH Mauro Soretti’s monopoly (Subaru Impreza/Leonessa Corse) enchanted with two monster times, the best in the second heat in 4’11.61. Second place for Michele Ghirardo (Lotus Exige Cup/Vimotorsport), third place for Giuseppe Camanini with the Porsche GT2 in the revival of the historical livery “Pink Pig”.

In E1 solo by Karel Trneny on the powerful Skoda Fabia of the Kamiro Racing Czech Team, in Group A Tonino Cossu (Honda Civic Type-R/Team Autoservice Sport) was not wrong, while in Group N family matter between Peter Ambruz (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX), first, and Anna Ambruz (Honda Civic Type-R), second.

THE COMMENT – “We bring the greetings of the President, Cav. Aldo Bonomi, who could not be present today” commented the top management of the Automobile Club Brescia, represented at the prize giving ceremony by Maria Gaburri and Flavio Gandolfi. “It was a great edition, which required an important commitment from all the staff involved. We care about this race, it represents an essential historical part of the sporting activity of the Automobile Club and for this reason our goal is to continue to improve. The event has responded to particularly high standards of quality and safety, and we hope that we can already aspire next year to the Campionato Italiano Velocità Motnagna in view of growth that certainly aims at the European title”.
